Discovering unforgettable values
We travel a lot. We believe that going out in the world adds a great value to our lives. We get to know each other better by spending free time together. Running after the bus, plane or train gives you a lot of inside impression about your colleagues. We see how we behave in funny situations, how creative we are when there is no taxi at the train station, it`s been more than 1 hour since we try to get to the hotel and this road turns to be longer that the one traveling through half of Europe. For example when we are traveling with Csaba, one of our project managers, there is no stress with how to get somewhere. If you travel with him all you need to do is to follow him. Don`t be late as he hates that and he leaves you at the airport, but apart from this you can just sit back, relax during your journey and follow Csaba`s steps. He knows almost everything, he has city maps, good sense of orientation, punctuality and great understanding of public transportation connections.
We schedule management meetings in all over of Europe, although it sounds like a holiday we have a well-defined topic list of items which needs to be discussed and we have discipline of working all day and having beer only at night. As Hans already mentioned in a previous blog post, our last management meeting outside the office was in Bratislava. Great city, nice people, historical attractions, fancy pubs and bars, everything you need to enjoy live even more then you do now. It worth to mention that when we plan a management trip we do not focus on cultural programs available during the time when we would be there, usually we agree on a city which all of us can reach relatively easy, we focus on ongoing projects, urgent matters to be discussed and availability of those team members who needs to be there.
Somehow we always get something extra on top of nice sight-seeing. We never look after special events on purpose but we always manage to find super great locations, events, concerts. Back in Spring the whole development team went to Seville for fun (this would worth a separate article on Blog, let`s hope once we`ll have time to do this). After booking all the tickets we realized that we will be there in the same week when they have the Semana Santa festival which is organized 1 week before Easter Holiday. It turned out that this is the biggest religious event in Seville and attracts tourist from all over the world. Now imagine how lucky we are…just like that. Not to mention what a great experience was to get inside the Alcázar Palace of Seville where the 5th season of Game of Thrones was filmed. Hm, stepping in the same place as the Lannisters stepped, not bad at all, after all is a 9.5 point movie according to Imdb.com so no one can deny that he wouldn`t be touched by this.
In Bratislava we were extremely lucky again, there were Culinary Days (eating goulash over red wine with strawberries and homemade bread dumplings is totally unforgettable), Noc hudby Music Festival and Street Festivals. By doing the regular sight-seeing and pub tour suddenly we got to the old center of the city where the Night of Music Festival called Noc hudby was held.

This festival was initiated in 2012 and this was the 5th edition of the event. The night dedicated to music is organized by the Music Center of Bratislava every year on the 3rd Friday of June. There are several music events, concerts, symposiums on the same day in multiple places, this year`s schedule can be found here. Take a look, it might be useful for the next year.

The concert to which we got by “mistake” it was something totally unrealistic. Music from the 1920`s played by the Bratislava Hot Serenaders, a Slovakian orchestra founded in 1991. They were simply magical by bringing back the feeling of early Jazz from the 1920`s to 1940`s. Singer ladies dressed according to contemporary American Jazz style with nice voices trying to reconstruct the sounds of Jazz of 100 years ago.

It was windy and raining a bit that night in Bratislava but we were so enchanted of what this concert offered that we did not even observe that maybe an umbrella would be great for not getting wet. Seriously, who cared? We were grateful for this, we still are if we think how nice this was. Basically we love everything which reveal quality, good taste, hard work and great results. And this band was definitely a proof of hard work combined with passion for music, even if you are not a no 1 fan of Jazz music you still appreciate the great value which brings an event like this.

We hope that this blog will assure a platform where we can share experiences like this, putting down on “digital paper” our traveling might give you ideas where to go and what to visit.
